Gesture Sketching with Cafes & Cowgirls

After work on Monday evenings I’ve been going to gesture sketching classes instructed by David Pimentel, and they’ve been so awesome to experience. I’ve been getting great practice in and I feel like I’ve been making some tremendous progress–just loosening up and going to bigger, bolder lines and shapes and most importantly, I feel like I’m getting a better hang of how to convey caricature and story through my sketches. Capturing story moments in a drawing has always been a tricky thing for me, so I am so excited to see that I’m continuing to make progress on that front. This class has helped me so much, Mr. Pimentel’s suggestions and encouragement are very helpful and I am eager to keep up the sketching sessions on a regular basis. Below are a few of my sketches from this class. One of the themes was a Parisian cafe and the other was a western cowgirl theme. I really am having a blast with all this drawing!
